It’s well worth spending a little time & effort to get those small problems fixed. Dripping taps, ill fitting doors, missing light bulbs, cracked tiles……all send the wrong message to potential buyers, especially naïve & inexperienced buyers.
This may be the hardest rule of all! We all love our clutter – it reflects our memories, hobbies & values…..but it doesn’t sell houses. Clutter makes house seem smaller and distracts potential buyers. Box up items you don’t need and store them in the loft/garage, re-arrange the furniture to create the best feeling of space and remove any pieces that aren’t essential and take up space.

It’s a fact……neutral colours sell. Try to convey an image of quality & neutrality. Potential buyers walking through your home want to imagine themselves living there. Buying a home is an emotional decision and you want buyers to make an emotional connection with your home so remove any personal objects that they may not identify with and which might distract them.
We all love our own pets but they can be off-putting to some people. Ensure that your pet is under control or out of the property when the viewings take place and make sure that there are no lingering pet smells.
Make sure you have adequate lighting in every room, use subtle mood lighting to create the right impression in each room and check all the bulbs work. Buying a few new extra lamps is well worthwhile in darker parts of your home.
